HUMOR is PLAYFUL THOUGHT

HUMOR is playful thought.

As a kid, I played all the time. Whatever the season, I was outside or inside, with friends or by myself – playing. I had no idea those hundreds of hours of freedom and fun - were teaching me the fundamental skill of creating comedy.

Humor is created in playful thought. The putting together of incongruent ideas requires unedited freedom. The spontaneity that endures in that lack of restriction is the cherished fun of play.

Where that spontaneity comes from must remain a mystery. Intellectualizing fun destroys it.
